Daihatsu, or Daihatsu Motors, is a Japanese manufacturer of small and compact sedan. The company traces back its history to the Hatsudoki Seizo Co., Ltd. which was founded in 1907. The company was originally known as a manufacturer of internal combustion engine. Its first vehicular products include trucks, three-wheeled vehicles and a four-wheeled car introduced in 1937. The company was renamed Daihatsu in 1951 and became dedicated in manufacturing small and compact sedans ever since. It started to export cars internationally, beginning in Britain, and in 1967 entered into a partnership with Toyota Motor Corporation. It finally became a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation in 1999.

Daihatsu Motors have created a number of popular small and compact cars sold internationally, including the Charade and Rocky to name a few. Their cars have been widely praised for craftsmanship and fuel economy. Today, they have a large number of cars being manufactured and sold. The list of their vehicle line-up includes the Charade, Copen, Sirion, Terios, Huet and Extol. Although they export these cars internationally, their car markets are few and limited.

Nathan ter Stege

Greetings from the Netherlands

I'm the proud owner of a 1989 Feroza 1.6 EL EFI (narrow track). I'm always trying to improve the looks and performance of my little truck, nothing too extreme though since it is my dai-ly-driver.
Besides some interior mods (upgraded to EL II), I've fitted an TJM 2,5" suspension lift (2 leafs, 2 torsion bars 30% stiffer and shockies), recently I've fitted 30 x 9.5 15 Mickey Thompson Baja's and I must say they Rock!
Also featuring an K&N open airfilter.

Interior:
Complete Rockford Fosgate stereo system and a TV, VCR, Super Nintendo and an N64.
In the back, green neons accent the Hydraulic pumps & amplifiers which are mounted behind a custom crafted Plexiglas window.

Exterior:
Red's Hydraulics (2 pump, 10 switch setup).
Dual alternators, shaved locks/handles.
Head light covers.
60 spoke chrome Player wheels.
The gull wing doors are still under construction for a new version in which the doors are hinged in the center of the roof instead of at the top of the window frames. Once the new version of gull wing doors have been completed, I will probably be selling my Rocky.
I have too much invested in my Rocky and with 2 children and a mortgage, money isn't what it used to be.

I thought I'd send you a pic of my Rocky from about 4 years ago.
She got a little bit tired, so decided to have a bit of a lie down. She got a full underbody service while she was there. lol.
This happened on a trip with a heap of other guys at Canungra, a small country town just inland from Australia's famous Gold Coast. She was righted after the pic, and driven away.
She was driven home the next day, (about 600 km/ 360 miles) with camper trailer in tow.
I still own this car, but earlier this year this body was replaced as it had too much cancer in it to be economical to repair.

Daihatsu Terios

I was looking through your site just now and thought I'd drop you a line saying how good it is to find a "place" shared by other Daihatsu 4x4 owners.

I own a Daihatsu Terios (funny, I don't remember seeing any on the site) which hasn't been modified in any significant way apart from a few stickers I made and a set of driving and fog lights... but is still quite fun off-road and is surprisingly capable for a small (extremely narrow, and if I raise it I won't be able to park in my spot!), stock 4x4 with no low-range transfer case.

Ryan Haepers

Michigan, USA

I live in Norway, Michigan USA.
I just recently purchased this 1990 Daihatsu Rocky SE at an auction, it has 116,000 miles on it and runs perfectly. I bought it not knowing anything about the vehicle, but sure glad I did.
Everything is stock except the stereo that I added, Sony head unit, Infinity Kappa 1" domes in the dash and 4 1/2" in the doors. Also it has 8" MTX midbass in the rear sides and a MTX 500 watt amp to power it. I also have a Ground Zero 1500W Sub that I will be installing into the rear door for security reasons since it only has a soft top and a regular sub box can be lifted out easily, so I am making the rear door into the box. It is not the most powerful 4cyl motor but so far seems to be very dependable.

I was really impressed to find out what so many of Rocky owners have done to their rides, and the number of sites showcasing them. Your site is equally impressive with many great pics and info. Thats what led me to sending these pics.
Like I said, I know very little about this vehicle except what I read from you and other fellow rocky owners, so I was hoping by putting my rocky on here you and all the talented rocky owners will help me upgrade my Rocky like so many have done.
Any websites where parts can be found, lift kits, snorkel kits or homemade directions, rims-tires that work well, performance mods, engine upgrades.....you get my point.
I also own a fullsize Ford truck, and I'll tell ya what, I enjoy driving my Rocky WAYYYY more.

This is my wifes 93 Rocky with 93,000 km (approx. 58,000 miles). I'm in the United States Air Force stationed in northern Japan. I bought this Rocky for my wife 3 years ago so she would have a 4x4 for the winters. (We get on avg. 120 in. of snow a year). The truck uses gas and is all stock.. other than the 225/70R/15 tires. The only thing I've had to do to it is the usual... brakes & tires. Unfortunately I don't get to go "off road" like I'd like to... I hardly get to drive it.... wouldn't mind getting another one once I get back to the good ol U.S of A in 2006.

Ive had my Sportrak for about 3 years, I bought after going to find a Range Rover to buy and after getting dissappointed with my selection for my budget. I passed the Sportrak on the side of the road with a For Sale sign in the window, I thought well it'll do untill I get a proper 4x4. How much was my mind changed after driving the Sportrak for a few weeks..

In 24hours of owning the Sporty I was in the local forest "testing" it I did manage to get it stuck for about 3 hrs (see pics). It was a "keeper"

I have done many things in my Sporty, From rescueing a Truck and Speed Boat (on trailer) that got stuck in soft sand, Thanks to a rope just long enough to get my front wheels onto a concrete slipway, To setting out a "Trials" coarse for Land Rovers (and yes I even beat a few of them).

Ive not made many modifications to it, just some Cheap spotlight, bigger tires, and removed the rear seats.

I have know moved from the UK to Canada and I am planing on shipping the Sporty over here, but I am going to have a few problems with the thing is set-up to drive on the other side of the road. I need some headlights mainly.... can anyone help.

Thanks for any help

Greeting from New Zealand. I need to put together some pictures shortly but I thought I would make contact first.
In NZ part are a bit difficult to come by and it's also difficult to find anyone that knows where to get bits from.
I noticed that there have been a few body and suspension lifts done on your site. Also snorkles and suspension mods.
I have got my hands on a 1985 Rugger (D70 with a 2.7 turbo diesel) this came complete with a PTO winch and all I have had to do is new tyres and a new winch wire and off I went. I have even pulled a Range Rover out of the mud
